I have mixed feelings for “Rent.” Although I like the music (for the most part), the characters annoy me so much that they make my teeth itch. I try to keep in mind that the show is a reflection of its time and the AIDS crisis, and this helps me appreciate it on a number of levels. However, I still can’t embrace it without reserve.
I voted ambivalent because it’s closest to how I feel: WAY too soon for a revival, but I’m still going to go see it a bunch of times.
As much as I think they could’ve waited a couple of years to drag Rent back onstage, Nick Christopher singing the I’ll Cover You reprise is the best I’ve ever heard. Worth the price of admission for sure.
